Tidal is the artist’s work in the heart of the power of women. To celebrate that, the artist takes the inspiration from the powerful female figure of a Javanese Spirit-Queen in traditional Javanese folklore, Nyai Loro Kidul.
Undeniably, the role of The Queen among Javanese believe still common until today. This includes her mythical role in the recent mount Merapi volcanic eruption in 2010, the earthquake in 2007, as well as the establishment of the kingdom in Yogyakarta, and many other stories
As such, the artist presumes that the queen must be such a significant powerful woman who able to fights against ebbs and flows, whereas, it is quite uncommon for a female figure to hold a strong power and influences toward the traditional gender and class system in Javanese culture.
