This work is about freedom, and based upon famous poetry of Indonesian poet Chairil Anwar, entitled Aku (means “I”).  The poetry Aku is a statement of rebellion and freedom and the work centres in the verse of the poem - contrasting ideas of repression and freedom.

This is a multi media dance/performance work where performance movements are emphasized by videos projection of a horse bolting in an alien landscape.  The metaphors are intensified by surreal elements surrounding the horse represents everything from own apathy to social repression.  In addition, several chaotic images are added to give justice to the power of the message from the poem.

AKU

Kalau sampai waktuku
‘Ku mau tak seorang kan merayu
Tidak juga kau

Tak perlu sedu sedan itu

Aku ini binatang jalang
Dari kumpulannya terbuang

Biar peluru menembus kulitku
Aku tetap meradang menerjang

Luka dan bisa kubawa berlari
Berlari
Hingga hilang pedih peri

Dan aku akan lebih tidak perduli

Aku mau hidup seribu tahun lagi
