Here is the new work that will happen on the 9th May 2009 in Northcote Town Hall, Melbourne. Joining TYC, Tony Yap Company, I’ve done the media works that will be incorporated in the show. The show is called “Melangkori” - a part of tryptich performance work of my fellow talented performer artist Tony Yap.
Imagine this, if you were in the blackbox theatre and you see a torrent of smokey water drop from the sky while there’s performer on the floor ready to be “bathed” by it. Of course it is not a real torrent of water It’s the video that I made and It’s done in super super slow-mo!
But the excitement won’t stop there: Imagine if there’s a body falling from the sky - that if looks like an angle been cast-away ...My other fellow sound artists : Tim Humprey and Madeleine Flynn describe it in a poetic way : Falling from Grace or Falling Into Grace.
The black box theatre itself will be set by visual/installation artist Naomi Ota. She is known in dealing with large-scale installation. So say no more that you will expect something bigger and better.
As I said above, Melangkori is part of tryptich performance work of Buddha Body. Yeah...since it’s a body the way I respond it is exploring the body itself. But in separate discussion beforehand, Tony and I are able to interpratete it as an oedipalian frame-work as well. However, throughout further discussion, we will exercise the idea focusing on the body and sexuality. But, in depth explanation of the work can be read at TCY website here.
So me and Tony worked on 3 hours production shooting day at RMIT Melbourne in the 7 April 2009. It was really productive day and I feel satisfied of the footages.I worked a la marathon to finish the idea and really glad it’s done.
I feel positive and got strange premonition that It’s going to be a cool work and I can’t wait to nail it down. I haven’t discussed with the team, but due to the nature of the graphics - I suspect It will be M-Rated show. But hey, that’s why we want to go to see the show, right...joking!
